Gerard's House Grief Support Groups
Gerard's House provides a safe, accepting place for children and teenagers, ages 3-20, who come to weekly support groups. Grieving children and teenagers meet with other children and teenagers in their own age group who have also experienced the death of someone important in their lives.
Group Activities Include:
- Group support
- Individual support
- Supervised play
- Art activities
- Story telling and drama
- Music
Trained grief support facilitators are always present in the groups. Facilitators help to create an environment where group members feel as safe as possible so that they can feel accepted as they share and bond with other group members at their individual pace.
Children and teenagers in our groups tell us that being in the groups with other kids who have had someone die helps them to feel not alone and different. They also tell us that it helps to come to a place where there are no expectations on them and no pressure to act or feel a certain way.
